Call For Papers

                  Workshop on Java in Computational Science

                            *** Deadline now 30th January ***

Held in conjunction with the

International Conference on Computational Science 2003 (ICCS 2003)

June 2 - 4, 2003
Melbourne, Australia

Workshop co-chairs

Andrew Wendelborn and Paul Coddington

 (University of Adelaide)

Background

The Java programming language is widely used for commercial applications and in teaching programming, but its uptake in scientific computing has been limited.

Advantages of Java include portability, modern object-oriented technology, and in-built support for thread parallelism, although there is a  perception that it lacks performance relative to other languages.

The purpose of this workshop is to enable, firstly, computational scientists to report experiences in using Java for computational science and high-performance computing, and secondly, researchers in high-performance Java to share recent advances with the computational science community.  Topics will include applications, performance and benchmarking, parallel computing, and supporting technologies.

Call For Workshop Papers

This is a general call for papers about Java in Computational Science. We invite papers involving the use of Java in developing and supporting scientific applications. In addition, papers related to advances in supporting technologies, such as Java compiler techniques for high-performance computing, will be of interest.

Topics of interest for this workshop include but are not limited to:

o       High-performance computing applications using Java;

o       Performance issues and benchmarking ;

o       Advances in parallel and distributed programming using Java;

o       Java tools in scientific applications (portals etc);

o       Advances in Java technologies supporting HPC;

o       Optimisation technologies;

o       Problem Solving Environments;

o       Visualization.

Submission Details

We invite you to submit full papers of 6 to 10 pages (Letter or A4 paper) for oral presentation. Submitted papers have to be original, containing new and original results. The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of LNCS. See http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for formatting information. All papers selected for this Workshop will be peer-reviewed and published in ICCS conference proceedings. The proceedings of the Conference will be published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. A selected number of papers will also be published as special issues in appropriate journals. A compressed Postscript or PDF version of your paper should be submitted by email to both of the workshop co-chairs: please mail to both because we will be on holidays at the time, and this will make it easier to respond to email.
