Presented at the Advanced Computational Systems CRC Retreat, Bowral, April 1999.

Abstract

Object Technologies and Systems is proposed as a key direction for future research work in distributed and wide area computing. Object technologies provide a vehicle for increasingly sophisticated middleware for supporting applications.

Object technologies can support technical activities of the CRC in the areas of virtual environments, for which distributed scenegraph technologu is needed; in the area of data mining, for which remote data access manipuilation technology is required; and for multimedia data archiving, for which complex data management interfacing software is required.
