Abstract
An important concern for scalable, wide-area distributed computing
environments is the secure transmission and the storage and discovery
of portable code objects. We describe a prototype working system
which demonstrates software technology for digital signatures, resource
description and database management of portable code. We discuss the
issues for such a system and how the important features can be
incorporated into a distributed computing environment such as our
DISCWorld system. We show how portable Java byte-code code
objects can be securely served to client programs from a database.
