Abstract
As operating systems and other complex software systems become ever
more complex the problem of reconfiguring live systems becomes both
more important and more difficult.
This paper presents a discussion of the key issues for reconfiguring
long running software and the use of object versioning and self
healing techniques in such systems.
We describe adaptive and reconfigurable attributes for a middleware
system and report on our experiments with our distributed computing
DISCWorld middleware.
Keywords: reconfiguration; long running objects; stable systems.
