Abstract
Distributed high-performance computing systems, present many
challenges not only in their design and implementation, but also in
the harnessing of the resultant collective resource. Supporting
legacy and commercial applications not specifically designed for use
in a given system is one such challenge. We address this problem with
a file system layer that is capable of abstracting over the physical
location, layout and format of data. Our system also provides the
capability for legacy applications to specify physical data
specifications through the standard file system interface.
