Distributed GIS Project

       GMS-5 satellite image (visible band)
GMS-5 satellite image The Distributed Geographic Information Systems (DGIS) Project involves applying and demonstrating distributed and high performance computing technology for decision support applications based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) utilising large geospatial data archives.

Our main focus is the creation of standards-based software for managing the storage, searching, processing and remote accessing of large distributed online archives of geospatial data, particularly from earth observation systems such as GMS-5 and NOAA satellites.

The project is targeting environmental, agricultural, landcare and defence applications in Australia, with the goal of enabling new or improved applications by providing transparent access to distributed online archives of satellite imagery and other geospatial data.
