The Distributed and High-Performance Computing group offers involvement to 2nd and 3rd year students in a sponsored summer school program.
This program was initiated in summer 1998/99 and provided five research scholarships to work on distributed and high performance computing projects between December and February.
The program objective is to provide students an introduction to a research environment and the opportunity to carry out some research, development and investigation on the advanced computational facilities of the group. Projects are supervised by members of the DHPC group and typically run for 10 weeks. 2nd and 3rd years planning further study in a Computer Science related area will gain most from this program.
The program was run again in summer 1999/2000 following its success the previous year. Projects focussed on Java and the use of Object Oriented methods in distributed computing, parallel computing and advanced virtual reality.
